Activities & Adventures Star Gazing

While the sea sparkles in the light during the day, nighttime brings a new sense of awe as constellations dance high above.

Grab a headlamp and head out on the beach for a natural light show. As a village, Tofino experiences minimal light pollution, which means that stars light up the night sky. On a clear night, you may even get to see the Milky Way. Some patience and a beach blanket are all you need to see shooting stars while you lay on the sand.

The Perseid meteor shower in August is an ideal time for experiencing this celestial magic. Keep an eye out for bright flashes of turquoise light in the crashing waves of the ocean too, from bioluminescent plankton in the summer months.

Honouring the night

The Nuu-chah-nulth had traditional roles as sky watchers and weather predictors. Stars are associated with ancestors and the world beyond this one. When in Tofino, look up to the night sky.
