Cougar Annie at the Clayoquout Sound Community Theatre! A 3 Act Theatrical journey following west coast legend Ada “Cougar” Annie Lawson, Vancouver Island’s most tenacious pioneer, from the magical mind of playwright Frank Harper. Travel with Annie through time and meet the characters who stumble into her world.
The play follows Ada as she moves across the world and finally settles on the rugged coastline of Vancouver Island which was to become her home for over sixty years. She cleared over 5 acres of brush to make room for a sprawling garden and orchard that provided the majority of her livelihood. Annie had eight children, four husbands and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, some of who still populate the area. While protecting her livestock and family she shot over a hundred bears, wolves and cougar. Cougar Annie’s path is that of most Canadians – the journey to carve out, build, and encourage a home in seemingly inhospitable surroundings.
COUGAR ANNIE, sponsored by the Tofino Arts Council will also be part of the West Coast Heritage festival in Tofino celebrating women of the west coast.. Take a journey into time and into the wild west of Vancouver Island, with this three act extravaganza.
