We may not be able to gather to celebrate the oceans, but our efforts to protect and restore the oceans and coastlines should remain unwavering. Check out our 4 Step Plan for the perfect #WOD2020

STEP 1: COFFEE AND DONUTS

World Oceans Day Donut with  Rhino Coffee House

Head on over to Rhino, one of our newest registered Ocean Friendly Businesses, for a special World Oceans Day Donut! All proceeds from this donut will be going to Surfrider Pacific Rim’s initiatives to end plastic pollution. Opening hours: 7:00 am – 4:30 pm.

STEP 2: SOCIALLY DISTANT BEACH CLEAN

Download the Marine Debris Tracker App and hit the beach!

Record the debris you find via the app to be in with a chance of winning a prize! Get the MDT how-to here: https://www.pacificrim.surfrider.org/news-feed/marine-debris-tracker-making-it-count-for-science

For more info on staying safe during solo beach cleans, check out this blog: https://www.surfrider.org/coastal-blog/entry/9023

All-day, the winner announced at the end of the month! The Den will also be offering a gift to those who bring them a bucket or bag of litter or debris they find at local beaches and trails. They will be gifting a set of reusable straws and a hand made Ucluelet Soap!

STEP 3: GET CREATIVE FOR THE OCEAN

*#LockDownTrashDown Giveaway Contest*

Show us how you’re minimizing what you’re sending to landfill, your waste management systems, and tips and tricks for others to be in with a chance of winning a gift certificate to an Ocean Friendly Business! Send us an email, DM or PM of any of your waste diversion practices: composting, upcycling & repurposing, reusing, repairing, or reducing your plastic footprint! More submissions = more entries. All-day, the winner announced at the end of the month!

STEP 4: CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON

Ocean Friendly Cocktails at Lil’ Ronnie’s Beachside BBQ

After you’ve filled up on coffee and donuts, entered the LockDownTrashDown competition, and completed your solo beach clean, head on over to Lil’ Ronnie’s BBQ, another newly registered OFB, to feast and quench your thirst with an Ocean Friendly Cocktail. Partial funds made from the cocktails will be going towards Surfrider Pacific Rim.

*Please note, this is not a public event/gathering, people are instructed to leisurely follow these steps in a solo fashion, abiding by business protocols for COVID-19.

The Ocean Friendly Business Campaign also wraps up on World Oceans Day, with 15 new businesses across the Pacific Rim registered as Ocean Friendly (see complete list below).
