2025 Water Conservation Materials

As summer approaches, we encourage businesses to prepare or collect their water conservation information materials.
These resources are required by bylaw to be posted during active water conservation stages and play an important role in supporting community-wide conservation efforts when needed.
All visitor-facing commercial businesses, including accommodations, retail, and restaurants, are required to display the District’s water conservation materials or equivalent information once Water Conservation Stage 1 is in effect.
How to Prepare:
- Pick up free water conservation materials from the Tourism Tofino Visitor Centre or the District of Tofino Municipal Office
- Download and print materials from the Resource Kit at www.tofino.ca/water
- Create your own water conservation messaging
- Train staff on how to communicate the importance of water conservation to guests
Understanding Water Conservation Stage 1
As of 2024, the District no longer automatically enters Water Conservation Stage 1 on May 1. Instead, Water Conservation Stage 1 is now determined by a combination of indicators, including:
- Local water usage trends
- Weather forecasts
- Other contributing factors related to water system capacity and sustainability
This shift enables a more responsive, data-driven approach to managing water use in the community.
Residents & businesses will be informed that the District is entering Water Conservation Stage 1 with a minimum of 48 hours' notice through the District of Tofino’s communication channels.
