ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days 2026 (Tla-o-qui-aht Days)
Tourism Tofino was honoured to take part in ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days, joining the community in the annual parade and a variety of celebrations throughout the week.
We attended the opening parade on August 10, which had a great turnout. The theme was "Celebrating Working Together" and it was a wonderful celebration of Tla-o-qui-aht culture and community pride.
The blanketing ceremony was an incredibly meaningful highlight of the day, honouring Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks Allies and recognizing their contributions. The whole day was a powerful expression of Tla-o-qui-aht culture, language, and Nation pride. Bouncy castles, dunk tank, cotton candy, and more was enjoyed by visitors and residents thanks to Tla-o-qui-aht!
Other highlights throughout the week included the grand reopening of Tofino Wildpods, recently acquired by the Tla-o-qui-aht Development Corporation, participating in clam garden restoration activities, and attending the opening of the new Tin Wis Amphitheatre, followed by an entertaining evening at TFN's Got Talent.
Along with several organizations, some of the Tourism Tofino team members joined in on the journey to tuṗałḥtin to help restore an ancient clam garden. This important restoration project revives traditional Tla-o-qui-aht harvesting practices, strengthens ecological knowledge, and puts the ʔiisaak Pledge into action through qʷaasiinḥapin (protecting habitats for future generations) and łaayaksiinḥiʔin (giving back through generosity, reciprocity, and service to community and the natural world).
