New global study 'Creating Equitable Destinations' features Tribal Parks Allies

In late October, a new global research report was released called 'Creating Equitable Destinations'. The report outlines 10 key learnings to help Destination Management Organziations like Tourism Tofino create a more balanced and equitable tourism model.

Looking at economic equity, environmental equity, spatial equity, cultural equity and tourism experience equity, the report was published by a coalition of organizations and universities led by The Travel Foundation and Destination Think.

The report includes global case studies where destinations are making strides in creating equitable tourism in their communities. One of the case studies is from our corner of the world - the Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks Allies program. Saya Masso (Director of Lands & Resources for Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation) and Brad Parsell (Executive Director of Tourism Tofino) were interviewed for the research report.

Tourism Tofino, like many Destination Management Organizations around the world, are looking to better serve our communitites by growing and spreading the benefits of tourism. As we embark on a long-term tourism planning exercise to replace the 2014 Tofino Tourism Master Plan, the insights and global case studies from this report will help Tofino make tourism a net benefit for all.
