Now officially open - The District of Tofino Wastewater Treatment Plant
August 22nd marked the completion of the largest capital project taken on by the District of Tofino.
The wastewater treatment plant is the culmination of years of effort and collaboration between local First Nations, regional partners including Tourism Tofino, and all levels of government.
The tourism industry in Tofino is contributing $1.6 million to the wastewater treatment plant over the 4-year period 2023 to 2027 from the MRDT (Municipal & Regional District Tax). This tax is paid by visitors staying at accommodations in Tofino and is the primary funding source for Tourism Tofino.
