In its fourth year, Tourism Tofino has awarded our annual scholarships totalling $30,000 to four graduating students of Ucluelet Secondary School.

As part of our destination stewardship efforts, the board of directors of Tourism Tofino identified an opportunity to create and manage a scholarship program to support young locals who are interested in pursuing a career in tourism, or have been involved in the tourism industry throughout their schooling. This initiative would serve to support the local tourism industry by fostering a new generation of local tourism entrepreneurs, while at the same time giving back to the communities on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

This years recipients were:

  • Clay Chiovitti - was awarded the Tourism Tofino Clayoquot Biosphere Trust scholarship. Clay intends to pursue kinesiology with the goal of contributing sport-specific expertise to the local surf industry.
  • Princess Daisymer Sawin-ay - Currently works at a local food truck as well as cleans property rentals, Princess is enrolled in the Hospitality Management program at Ascenda School of Management.
  • Riley Gerbrandt - Currently a Surf Instructor at Wick'd Surf, Riley will be attending Okanagan College for a Bachelor of Applied Arts program in Community Research & Evaluation.
  • Olive Woodland - Currently entering her fourth summer at the Ucluelet Aquarium Society as guest service and interpreter, Olive will be attending Simon Fraser University.

We would like to congratulate all of the 2026 graduates in our region, and look forward to following the success of the four 2026 scholarship recipients.

Additionally, we are very excited to announce the partnership with Clayoquot Biosphere Trust to offer a scholarship to an adult student, which will be announced in the fall.
