Tourism Tofino Launches New Website

We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of our new website earlier this month. After awarding the Request for Quotation in September 2023, VentureWeb, a Squamish-based company, was chosen to bring this exciting project to life.

The primary objective of the new website is to create an immersive and inspiring experience, prioritizing user-friendliness above all else. We aim to provide visitors with a seamless and captivating online journey, from being an inspiration for them to visit, straight through to being a platform for finding accommodations, activities and experiences to book a trip to Tofino (Načiks).

One of the key highlights of the new website is its enhanced incorporation of Nuu-chah-nulth content in consultation with Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks. Recognizing that visitors to Tofino are guests in the in the haḥuułi (Territory) of the ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ (Tla-o-qui-aht) ḥaw̓iiḥ (Hereditary Chiefs). Tourism Tofino strives to provide a platform that showcases the rich culture and stewardship of the Tla-o-qui-aht people. Visitors can now access information on Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks, the ʔiisaak pledge and learn local names in Nuu-Chah-Nulth language, fostering a deeper connection with the local community.

“ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ / Tla-o-qui-aht Nation have hosted Tofino since it moved from the original nearby non-native trade post site in the territory to the headland (Načiks) where our Nations guardians have kept watch over generations.  There have been many challenges in our short history with Tofino and Canada.” said Gisele Maria Martin, Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks outreach & guardian. “This solstice season I am grateful for Tourism Tofino's efforts to help the ongoing guardianship of Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks in the Haḥuułi of the ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Haw̓iiḥ. This includes website changes to help correct damaging narratives to better representations which reflect respect for Indigenous territories and the interconnection, dependence and responsibility we all share with and to Nature.”

In line with the ever-evolving digital landscape, we ensure that the new website is a mobile-first experience. With the majority of users accessing information on the go, the website's responsive design guarantees a seamless browsing experience across all devices.

“Rebuilding a website of this scale from the ground up is no small feat, and I am so proud of our team, VentureWeb, and all the collaboration from local businesses, organizations and content creators,” said Brad Parsell, Executive Director at Tourism Tofino. "The website is beautiful, dynamic and rich with information for travelers. I am so very grateful to Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks for their ongoing guidance and partnership. It is critical that visitors understand that when they’re visiting Tofino they are in Tla-o-qui-aht territory and to have an appreciation of that culture, and this project goes a long way to help in that effort.”

We invite everyone to explore the new website  at www.tourismtofino.com. The immersive content, and Indigenous engagement make it an invaluable resource for planning unforgettable experiences in this breathtaking coastal destination.
