Truth Honor and the Way Forward t-shirts available for sale
Proceeds from the sale of this shirt, designed by Koyah Morgan-Banke from Toquaht Nation, will be used to support student-led National Truth and Reconciliation projects & exhibits at Ucluelet Secondary School.
Tourism Tofino partnered with the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust to create a t-shirt to fundraise for the student-led projects for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. An incredible example of youth leading reconciliation, the youth use their projects to educate the broader community of the extreme trauma caused by the residential school system. The projects honour those children who never returned home, and those who are still now living with the effects of this trauma.
The shirts are available at the Tofino Visitor Centre and here.
“My intention with this design is to capture the healing/growing process of reconciliation today through use of symbolism and traditional meanings.
The central design of a blooming flower is intended to symbolize regrowth and recovery, whilst the hummingbirds that accent the piece portray optimism and hope.
You are growing and changing everyday. May your resilience continue to let you grow stronger.”
Koyah Morgan-Banke from Toquaht Nation, Ucluelet Secondary Student, Class of 2023.
Wearing an orange shirt is a national movement to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools, and those children who never returned home.
