Your Fall Itinerary

Jordyn Giesbrecht - Hideaway Creative
An inspiration guide to a 3-day stay for different vacation styles, all in the fall:
Before you leave:
- Queue up the playlist or podcast for your drive,
- Grab all the good snacks - and some hydration for the journey, and
- Have your camera or phone ready for those first views of the mountains in the Sutton Pass
- Looking to skip the road trip and get in and out of Tofino quicker? Book your Vancouver-Tofino flights with long-running Pacific Coastal Airways, or now with Harbour Air, starting a year-round wheeled service in late October!
When to go:
- Anytime that works for you is a great time, but mid-week or non-holiday weekends will be the quietest times for a relaxing escape.
Book ahead:
It's always a good idea to book in advance, especially for sought-after experiences like saunas and bathhouses, Hot Springs Cove, or specialty spa treatments.

Day 1 -
- Arrive at your accommodation. Your stay could be:
- A vacation rental: Try something like the Goodnight Den Suite in the town core for as little as $90/night via Blue Crush Concierge
- A cozy cottage setting: Enjoy a cottage-core fall in an A-frame cabin, like the Shoreline Tofino
- A resort retreat: See what the incredible Tofino resorts have to offer, so that you don't have to lift a finger! Visit the breath-taking Wickaninnish Inn - awarded two MICHELIN Keys in 2024.
- Keep things easy and grab a bite out:
- Enjoy a family-style experience at the cozy Middle Beach Lodge (book ahead if you are staying offsite).
- Take in oceanfront views at Shelter Restaurant - candlelight, harbourfront and a coastal accent on all of your favourites.
- Keep things casual and visit family-friendly Tofino Brewery while you taste Japanese street food on-site at Toki Doki before they close on October 15. Otherwise, play a board game while you nibble on appies at ROAR Tofino in the sunken lounge at Hotel Zed.
Day 2 -
- Start the day slowly:
- Staying at Pacific Sands in September? Book their Rise + Dine package to have breakfast from the Beach Shack delivered straight to your door from September 1 - 30. Or visit the café in person, then take a few steps over to Cox Bay Beach for a surf check (or to take a pic of the view).
- Staying along the harbour? Watch the sun rise over the mountains with a cup of coffee or tea in hand. Stop at local favourite Tofino Coffee Roasting Co. and take your coffee to go - bonus points for bringing your own mug.
- Try a new spot, nestled by MacKenzie Beach within Tsawaak RV & Campground: Moss and Milk Cafe crafts beautiful beverages and Levant-inspired food.
- Choose your adventure in the Sound:
- Catch views of the Ursus americanus vancouveri, AKA black bear, on a bear watch tour! Board an open-air Zodiac boat or a covered vessel. Tours usually run to mid-October, when the bears go into winter torpor.
- Glide along Tofino Harbour on a kayak tour. Pick from a 2.5 hour islands outing, or paddle to Wanačas Hiłḥuuʔis | Meares Island Tribal Park to walk under the forest canopy of the Big Tree Trail.
- Catch that sunset:
- Bundle up - evenings cool down quickly here - and watch the sun set over the horizon at the beach. Take your pick of North or South Chesterman, Cox Bay Beach, or MacKenzie.
- In town? Look west to the end of Campbell Street by Duffin Cove for hued skies. Conveniently, there is take-out food right there at Poblano's and Donair Addict (the only eatery open until midnight!)
- The First Street dock has long been a go-to sunset spot. If you view day's end from here, be sure to give space to residents of off-shore communities who use the dock to load/unload vehicles.

Day 3 -
- Savour your morning:
- A popular, close-to-the-beach destination for over 20 years ago, Tofitian serves up a selection of baked goods (with gluten-free options) to eat in or take out, plus has nice swag to bring home.
- You might meet some longtime local residents at the Common Loaf Bake Shop, serving hot breakfast options plus baked goods since the 1980s.
- Choose your adventure, feel good - this time, with a wellness theme:
- Take your pick of treatments at Tofino spas - just be sure to book ahead - from aromatic massage, facials, body wraps, and local specialties at facilities with all the comforts you're seeking.
- Want an off-the-beaten-path wellness day? Hop on the boat ride included in your time at Moon Jelly Bathhouse and the remote floating sauna at Tofino Resort + Marina, both up Clayoquot Sound.
- Book your beachside sauna at Tuff City Saunas and run into the ocean to cool down - or perhaps your vacation rental has an on-site cedar barrel spa!
- Cap the trip off with a dinner to remember:
- Wolf In the Fog opened its wood-accented, elegant space in 2014 and Chef Nick Nutting continues to create inventive dishes - and some favourites like potato-crusted oysters and Tofino seaweed salad.
- Experience a trifecta of ocean views, intricate cuisine, plus refined service at The Pointe Restaurat at the Wickaninnish Inn.
- West-facing, sunset-friendly Ombré is where to taste small plates for sharing, with an extensive cocktail (including non-alcoholic choices) and wine list.
- For a casual finale to your Tofino time, eat outside at Wildside Grill, then pick up dessert at Chocolate Tofino - always a good combination.

Day 4 - It's Check-Out Day
- Snacks to Go:
- Get road-ready with specialty organic snacks and beverages at Gaia Grocery, some cheese and charcuterie from Picnic Charcuterie, or a little someting from classic go-to, Beaches Grocery.
