There’s another way of getting around Tofino this summer – Tofino Transit is operating from June 28 through September 1, 2014.  The best part (aside from being able to give your vehicle some downtime) is that it’s FREE!

The service will run hourly between 11:00 am and 8:30 pm. The shuttle will drive between downtown Tofino and the Cox Bay Visitor Centre with stops convenient to local beaches, restaurants and businesses.  Riders can hop on or off the bus at any stop along the route. You can even load up your surfboard.

The shuttle previously charged riders a $2 fare but in an effort to make the service more convenient, the District of Tofino has opted to offer the service free of charge.   The seasonal service is paid for through a blend of Resort Municipality Initiative and Federal Gas Tax Agreement funding. The District has contracted locally owned Tofino Bus to operate the 2014 service.

Some useful notes about this service:

  • Feel free to bring along your surfboard, but the bus is not equpiied to transport bicycles
  • Passengers are seated on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Please note that there are scheduled stops – as well as flag stops (use your taxi hailing skills) and drop-offs by request
