Fifth Annual “Queen of the Peak” Women’s Surf Championship Welcomes Full Roster of 100 Competitors to Tofino, British Columbia, October 3-5, 2014

Proceeds from Canada’s Only All Female Surfing Competition Benefit “Keep A Breast Canada”

Tofino, BC, September 30, 2014 – Tourism Tofino, the organizers and sponsors of the fifth annual Queen of the Peak (QOP) women’s surfing competition today announced that the competitor roster for this year’s event, being held in Tofino, British Columbia from October 3‑5, is now full.

More than one hundred women and girls will compete for up to $10,000 in cash and prizes in four QOP categories:

—   Short board

—   Long board

—   Princess of the Peak – Age16 and Under

—   Age 40 and Over Masters

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Keep A Breast Canada, a nonprofit foundation whose mission is to help eradicate breast cancer.

Presented by Billabong and the Wickaninnish Inn, and supported by local, regional and surfing industry sponsors, the QOP was created by Tofino’s Surf Sister Surf School and Shelter Restaurant in 2010 toshowcase and celebrate women’s surfing. The contest will be held on Tofino’s Chesterman Beach or Cox Bay, depending on wave conditions, and will also belive-streamed at the Queen of the Peak website.

Contestants include last year’s Queen of the Peak short board champion, Cath Bruhwiler (Tofino), 2013 Princess of the Peak, Matea Olin (Tofino, 11 years old), 2011 long board and short board champion, Hanna Scott (Tofino), 2012 short board champion, Sara Taylor (California) and 2012 short board finalist, Jenna Balester (California).
