No need to break your habit of waking up with the songbirds (or maybe a little after them).  In fact, we recommend setting that alarm so you can get more out of your time in Tofino.  Here are some surefire ways of starting your day on the right foot:

1.  Coffee Tawlk:

Get yourself to Tofino Coffee Co.’s tiny shop in town, open from 7am and serving up some flavourful caffeinated beverages and freshly-baked goods.

2.  Know Where to Run:

We enjoy an early run down the hard-packed sand on Chesterman Beach, measuring 2.7km (or 1.7 miles).  The view is even more dramatic at low tide, with more beach to see.  We recommend checking the tide when you do this, especially in winter.

3.  Bear with Them:

Black bear watching tours happen at low tide, which could go from early morning to late evening.  Glide along the quiet inside waters on a zodiac or covered vessel as nature wakes up and witness these gorgeous animals foraging for food.

4.  In the Garden of Eden, Honey

Or almost.  The Tofino Botanical Gardens are open from dusk till sunset daily.  Wind down one the forested paths or boardwalks that give way to the Tofino Mudlfats, home to numerous, often tiny, species and a resting spots for thousands of migratory and local birds.

5.  On the Dock of the… Inlet

Life is different down on the dock.  Catch this fresh perspective of Tofino and Clayoquot Sound on the Fourth Street Dock as commercial fishermen and sport fishing guides prep their day, tour boats greet visitors and residents of nearby islands and floating homes come and go.  You’ll wonder why you didn’t discover this side of life sooner.

Until tomorrow morning, friends…
