You can just feel the excitement in the air as this week leads up to the 7th Annual Queen of the Peak Women’s Surf Championships Sept. 30 – Oct. 2! Here’s information about this one-of-a-kind event that first took place waaaay back in 2010:

1.     Watch it live!  Of course you are encouraged to make a weekend of it and watch these ladies shred in real life, but if you’re not in Tofino, you’re still in luck! With the vast improvement of Tofino’s Internet capabilities, a live feed of the surf competition will be broadcast throughout the weekend at queenofthepeak.com

2.    While the competition on the waves runs Friday through Sunday, there’s an off-the-water lead-up event that attracts a lot of attention: the ‘Zumba for Babies’ Hospital Fundraiser.  It is open to the public on Tuesday, September 27,  6:00-7:30pm Tofino Community Hall with a $10 suggested donation, and this years dollars will go toward an emergency birthing bed for the Tofino Hospital Foundation – a local Charity who’s mission is to raise money for various local needs at the Tofino General Hospital.

3.     Childcare, dogsitting, plus a massage from the Wickaninnish Inn’s Ancient Cedars Spa? Yes, please. All these complimentary services are offered to every Queen of the Peak competitor because the contest all about making surfing accessible to women.

4.     Are you into après-surf? Then you’ll want to come to Queen of the Peak’s after-party at the Tofino Legion presented by the organizers of Otalith Music Festival.

5.    The 2016 QOP trophy is all about glory, fashion and function: Lisa Fletcher is designing wearable trophies in the form of her uber-Tofitian jewelry for the winners of the longboard and shortboard divisions.
