You can just feel the excitement in Tofino as this month leads up to the 9th Annual Queen of the Peak Women’s Surf Championships Sept. 28 – 30!  There’s fun to be had on and off the beach during this three-day, all-female surf competition that attracts upwards of 100 surfers, some as young as eight years old.

Read these tips on how to make the most of this one-of-a-kind weekend:

1. Pack your flip flops or gumboots and watch the ladies shred, in person!  If you’re not in Tofino, view a live feed of the surf competition, to be broadcast throughout the weekend at

2.    While the main event is on the waves, there’s even more happening on and off the beach, including beach yoga with Tofino Yoga!  New in 2018 is an art exhibit at Tofino Coffee Roasting Co.s Industrial Way location (including a raffle of a Bryanna Bradley print), plus a premiere of Andy Irons: Kissed by God at the Tofino Legion, a classic go-to spot in our village.  Partial proceeds of event merchandise will benefit the Tofino Hospital Foundation, while Wildside Grill will be serving their West Coast gumbo and chowder on the beach by donation.

3.     Childcare, dog-sitting, plus a massage from the Wickaninnish Inn’s Ancient Cedars Spa? Yes, please! All these complimentary services are offered to every Queen of the Peak competitor because the contest all about making surfing accessible to women.

4.    Not your typical trophy:  Queen of the Peak hardware combines glory with fashion and function.  Lisa Fletcher (you may have visited her new co-design space, The Factory) is designing three modern jewelry pieces for the winners of the Longboard, Shortboard and Princess of the Peak divisions.
