There is something truly magical about visiting the rustic lodge of Cedar Coast Field Station. Accessible only by boat, the 10-minute journey to Vargas Island is the first step in an adventure to the remote coast of British Columbia. Whether you are renting our facility for a special event or coming for a retreat, educational program or to participate in one of our youth or family camps, your time at the station will bring new perspectives empowered by fresh ways of being and thinking.

Cedar Coast Field Station is an independent, not-for-profit society with a vision to preserve ecological health through place-based research and education that celebrates the cultural and biological diversity of Clayoquot Sound, located in Ahousaht First Nation territory.

Our facility features six wall tents nestled among an evergreen forest with a spectacular view of the surrounding ocean and mountains. The serene and quiet of the island offers guests an immersive experience into some of Canada’s most striking landscapes and wildlife. Our small team works intimately with each guest to plan a trip perfectly tailored to you. Go on a guided walk across Vargas Island, get picked up at our dock for an unforgettable bear or whale watching tour or learn about the local Pacific salmon.

At the end of an adventure-filled day, sit down to a freshly prepared meal by one of our in-house chefs or prepare your own food in our well-equipped kitchen.

Fall asleep to the crackle of a wood burning fireplace and wake to bird song as the forest comes alive around you. It will be an adventure you will never forget.
