Things To Do Shopping

Fusing past days of commercial fishing and forestry with the culture of surfing, eco-tourism, and Nuu-chah-nulth traditions, Tofino is an eclectic place of contrasts and inspires creativity.

Embrace your inner Tofitian and peruse the independent shops and galleries along Campbell Street and along the water’s edge. Or visit storefronts on your way to and from the beaches for gifts, surf shop branded apparel, weekly market treasures, and rain gear to keep you dry.

All-season toques for temperatures that can change on a dime, fleece sweaters to keep you cozy after a day of surfing or storm watching, and footwear to go from sand to trail to town. Here, you can shop for looks that blend rugged with utilitarian and bohemian with laid-back surfer.

Choncho /chon-cho/:

This surf-specific article of clothing is both a towel and a poncho and that allows you to change out of your wetsuit in the middle of a busy parking lot.

In this pocket of the world there are numerous uniquely Tofitian creations. Indulge in hand-made candles, organic soaps and apothecary products made with ingredients sustainably harvested from the ocean and surrounding forests. Sip on local kombucha or tea, shop for custom jewelry made with sea glass collected from local beaches, see the work of local photographers hanging in galleries, and be inspired by sea-salvaged fibre art made from marine debris that has washed up on the shores of Vancouver Island.
